What Does The Fox Say?

Good morning!  Today I am sharing a project I created this week, inspired by the newest Photograph challenge at InspiredBy

Make sure to hop on over to the blog because the projects from the designers are SO fun and inspiring again this week!

My project this week is a kindergarten classroom (or toddler) rhyme time game, targeting struggling readers and ELL learners. Every time I looked at the picture, the succulents “growing” was the first thing that I focused on.  So, I decided I wanted to focus on “growth” and that’s when the game came to-mind.

This week, I was inspired by the foxy succulent, the colors (black, orange and green) and the succulent.

What Does the Fox Say? Rhyme time game

I used the Fox from Sweet Elsie to be the focal that we would be rhyming for the game.  I cut a circle Game Title using the What does the Fox Say cut.

As I pull the rhyming pieces out of the box, the children will find the picture on their game card and “smack it” with their fox smacker, repeating the rhymes aloud as they find them….fox/clocks, fox/blocks, fox/socks etc.

In the pic below, I am demonstrating how the game is played:
When you pull out an object from the box, the child uses their "fox swatter" to swat the socks on their game board and when they locate it, say "socks/fox" rhyme.

"rocks/fox rhyme"

"clocks/fox rhyme"

After designing the box to hold the game, I decided to create the game boards using the notepad paper from the Awesome Pencil Card project by Silhouette.  I googled pictures that rhyme with fox, printed them, adhered them to the notebook paper and then laminated each game board.

I created the rhyming pieces from various Silhouette cuts:

I then decided to create the Fox rhyme time smackers using the Fox cut.  I cut 2 fox heads from each color (black and orange), adhered the white detail pieces on the front, adhered them to a dowel and then adhered the blank fox cut to the back of the dowel.

To keep the playing cards nice for a long time to come, I laminated the cards (you can see the glossy ones behind the front two), that way, I am able to use these with my grandson and in the classroom.

Isn't this inspiration the cutest?

I can't wait to see all the "foxy"/animal cards, layouts and projects this week!

Thank you for stopping by to visit!

Hello coffee ♥️

Good morning! I’m back today with my card for this week’s challenge at Inspired By.   This week’s challenge was really fun and inspiring.  The DT gave lots of interpretations and projects and they’re all amazing, definitely check them out!

At first glance I thought I would stick with the circles but then as I took time to look again, I decided that there was way more to be inspired by (in addition to the circles).   At first, the cheesecake kinda made me draw a blank but then it came to me... what goes more perfectly with dessert than coffee?  (I don’t need dessert or any excuse to drink coffee, but I digress....smile).  So I decided on a coffee theme (I give lots of coffee gift baskets and cards, and it’s always great to have cards or tags on hand to do so).

I wanted to really stay true to the colors since it’s a big focal and the fork kept sticking out to me so I decided I needed to add stripes to represent the tines of the fork.  Lots of things in this one inspired me and I really look forward to seeing how it inspires all of you!

I hope you’ll hop over to the blog, check out our awesome guest designer and play along with us this week.

Inspired by...got mail?

Hello, Happy Wednesday! Wednesday means another challenge over at Inspired By.  This week’s challenge is such a cute one and I can’t wait to see all the inspiration from everyone.  Here is the inspiration picture Laurel chose for this week

Isn’t it the cutest?
Woodland animals, Valentine’s, critters, love, “happy mail”, winter, there’s so many ways to be inspired by this cute picture and I am really looking forward to seeing everyone’s creations.

I created two different cards inspired by the picture because it gave me a perfect reason to use two digital cuts from the Silhouette store that I hadn’t found the time to use yet.

Don’t Worry card

On this card, I used the Raccoon Woodland Creature by Sarah Bailey.  There are so so many cute raccoons on the Silhouette store, but this one by Sarah just had the cutest little expression, one that I had in my head when picturing the sentiment for the card.  I used the Love Mailbox by Loni Stevens on this card so it had the “Love” word on it, contrasting with the “bandit” idea.

I wanted to use the raccoon with the idea that he doesn’t want to “steal the love”, alternately he is mailing the love, in a sense “giving it”.  Raccoons are the cutest little bandits with their masks, so I decided to add some “smart-looking” glasses, like he had gotten smarter.  I played with a bunch of sentiment ideas, but finally decided on:  Don’t worry, I’ve mailed it in (like he’s given up the stealing) and inside of the card reads:  Love, The Love Bandit.
I hope it all makes sense outside my mind…giggle.

Sending Hedgehugs card

This card was completely inspired by the cute digital cut that I hadn’t used until this challenge.  I am  creating several cards using it for friends and family, looove.  I used the Valentine Hedgehog by Sarah Bailey for this one.  I also used the Mailbox digital cut from Snapdragon Snippets.  I have used this one before and knew it would be perfect for this inspiration picture with the cute little letters in the picture.  SO much to be inspired by with Laurel’s challenges.

For the inside of the card, I wanted to create a fun presentation for the sending hedgehugs sentiment, so I cut a much larger envelope and embellished it with the rest of the sentiment.

I can’t wait to see how this challenge will inspire you and to see what you were inspired by.

puffy heart embellishment tutorial

Good morning!

I am back today to share the quick puffy-heart picture tutorial.  I am not a sewing pro by any means, and these are fun with fabric but I wanted some puffy embellishments for the cards so I translated it with patterned paper. (They use up scraps too, bonus!)

Please let me know if you have any questions, if the pictures don't answer them.

Once you have filled and adhered the heart together (leaving a little trim of patterned paper above one of the hearts) stitch completely around the bottom heart.  When you are done stitching, you will have a section that has not created a finished seam on the back of the hearts, however, most of it is sewn closed and the hot glue I use to adhere these (start with pushing from the bottom of the heart upwards to dry) closes them off and there is no batting showing.  If you want a heart that is sewn closed you would align the two hearts perfectly (and could use card stock for one of the hearts since you won't be seeing it)

Here is the card I created using one of these puffy hearts

Heartfelt love card

sentiment: heartfelt love

sentiment inside reads:  today & every day

I hope you have a chance to try some of these out on one of your projects.

Happy creating♥

CAS challenge...love

Happy Superbowl Sunday!
What a game huh?  Wow.  Entertaining, fun and filled with excitement!  Superbowl games can be that way every year if you ask me, we've been so spoiled the last two years!

I am back with a card I created for another challenge this week, AAA card challenges.  The challenge is to create a CAS card with a love theme.  I have been cleaning up my desk from creating all weekend when I decided I needed to use up some scraps (I have the hardest time ever throwing out a single scrap).  This CAS love-themed challenge came to-mind because the challenges love white-space and that means scraps are perfect for the white space.

                                                          Love card

Love card details
I used a scrap piece of patterned paper, layered it with a scrap piece of vellum.  I cut the heart from a Lori Whitlock design from the Silhouette store.  I resized the heart in her 3D Yin Yang card design to create the heart and used the Hanging Hearts file by Jen Martakis to create the hanging bow.

This was such a fun challenge and a fun site with loads of inspiration for CAS cards.

Heartfelt Love

Happy Superbowl Sunday!

I was inspired by a sketch over at MyFavorite Things this week and I saved the image so as to use it to create more Valentines.

Isn't this sketch perfect for the puffy hearts?

I love this  time of year, it’s a time for me, similar to Christmas, where I take the time to tell my loved ones (with a just because kind of card) that I love them and how much they mean to me, and the cards get to have HEARTS, they’re expected to have hearts….beautiful♥

Heartfelt Love card

On my card I created an embellishment heart.  I love the puffy stickers, they're so cute, however, I needed a  bigger puffy embellishment for Valentine’s Day, BIG hearts (insert smiley).  So, I set out to create a few that would be a big focal.  These cards are being hand-delivered so I wasn’t worried about the bulkiness of the heart.  They are pillowed and puffy and “heartfelt”.

Inside the card reads:

I will be posting a quick picture tutorial tomorrow about the creation of these embellishments, easy, quick, fun.  I hope you’ll pop back in to take a look.

more valentines♥

Hello.  I wanted to share a couple of Valentine cards I have created using some scraps from my card created for the Inspired By challenge this week.

                                          love idea card

                                          love card

I had some scraps of light pink and hot pink card stock left over so I decided to layer them under a stamp frame and layer a piece of vellum on top to soften the look.  The light bulbs are cut from gold glittered wood grain paper and looks really pretty against the pink and red card stock.  I then layered the stamp mat onto black glittered card stock.

I tried to capture the vellum on top of the card stock in the detail pic.

It was so much fun to create these with the scraps, makes your soul feel good to use them and not throw them away (said in my best paper hoarder voice)

Thanks for visiting♥

fun news day♥

Good morning!  I have some really fun news to share.  My incredibly talented friend, Laurel Seabrook has added a design team to her weekly card challenge site, Inspired by.  I was excited when she asked me if I would like to be a part of her team, I love challenges and hers are absolute favorites of mine.

Inspired By is kicking off February with introductions of the new design team and a new challenge today.  So, without further ado...

Here is the new inspiration photo

Isn't it fun?

And here was my interpretation of the challenge

                                   love you watts card

I have been waiting for an opportunity to use these Light Bulbs in Love cut files from Miss Kate Cuttables and this challenge was just the motivation to do so.  I love how cute they are and look forward to using them again in future projects.

Sentiment:  love you watts
Inside sentiment reads:  watts & watts

I was inspired by the pink, cream, gold and pops of strawberry red colors, the circle shape, the pink and cream stripe design, the fun sentiment, the hearts, really everything.

The design team interpretations are amazing, you have to check them out here.

ALSO, there's a $25 gift certificate up for grabs from SIMON SAYS!!!

We can't wait to see what you will come up with for this challenge, happy creating!
